Carnival Theatre present Victory by Howard Barker // 5th tt18
“I will bring you back. I will get your bits, your chops and scrag, your offal and your lean cuts, I will collect them. I will bring your poor bald head away that hurt me so much with its arguments...”
At the start of Victory, Bradshaw vows to reunite her husband’s mutilated corpse. His head is on a spike in Blackfriars and his torso is on the Strand. The year is 1660 and it is no time to be an enemy of the King. Bradshaw’s quest takes her through a war-torn country to the opulent court of a farcical Charles II. Barker’s baroque ‘n’ roll tale of tragedy combines the grotesque and comical in this (semi) historical reimagining. This chaotic, rarely-performed play will be told by a small cast with lots of multi-rolling, twists and wigs.
