Gruffdog theatre present julius caesar by william shakespeare
"Cry 'Havoc,' and let slip the dogs of war;
That this foul deed shall smell above the earth
With carrion men, groaning for burial."
Gruffdog Theatre presents a hauntingly beautiful reworking of Shakespeare's violent epic of honour and treachery.
The famous general and statesman, Julius Caesar returns to Rome in triumph over Pompey the Great to adoration from the people in the city. Yet, in the shadows, the staunch defenders of the Republic, fearing the rise of a tyrant, plot to overthrow the great man with treachery and bloodshed.
With an original score composed by Ben van Leeuwen, layered with sound, puppetry and ensemble movement, Julius Caesar tells the story of a man destroyed by his own ambition.
