American Buffalo // by David Mamet // 8th Week MT19
"There’s lotsa people on this street, Bob, they want this and they want that. Do anything to get it. You don’t have friends this life..."
Mamet's 'American Buffalo' is the story of three petty criminals, Don, Bob and Teach.
Don is the owner of a junkshop, a crumbling home for bits-and-bobs of little to no apparent worth. Don employs and looks after Bob, a young recovering drug addict. Teach is Don's foul-mouthed friend and pipe-dream extraordinaire.
After Don sells a rare American Buffalo nickel, he's convinced its value may be more than he has let it go for. The three form a plan to steal it back before the mark leaves town.
Mamet's tragicomedy draws the fragile line between friendship and the American Dream.
