Mamet's 'American Buffalo' is the story of three petty criminals, Don, Teach and Bob. Don is the owner of a junkshop, a crumbling home for bits-and-bobs of little to no apparent worth. Don employs and looks after Bob, a recovering young addict who works in Don's shop. Teach is Don's foul-mouthed friend and pipe-dream extraordinaire. After Don sells a rare American Buffalo nickel, he suspects its value may be more than he has let it go for. The three form a plan to steal it back before the mark leaves town. Mamet's tragicomedy asks where the American Dream fits into a world of petty crime, false promises and fragile friendships.
