Poltergeist theatre presents the weir by conor mcpherson
(Wednesday 4th - Saturday 7th May, 7:30pm)
In a remote pub in rural Ireland, the familiar routines of four local men are broken up by a female newcomer from Dublin. They begin to tell ghost stories to pass the time, but as the alcohol flows freely, their reminiscences take on a far more intimate and tragic tone. Conor McPherson's heartbreaking piece, heralded as 'one of the finest plays written in the 21st century', gives a deeply human and devastating account of grief and loneliness, as well as its reverse - speaking of love and companionship in a voice that is poetic yet familiar.
This is the first time that The Weir has been performed at Oxford, and the play has recently finished a sell-out stint in the Donmar Warehouse and the West End.
