it felt empty when the heart went at first but it's alright now by lucy KIRKWOOD
(Wednesday 9th - Saturday 12th November)
“I know exactly how much I am worth. I am worth one thousand euros because that is how much Babac paid for me. To put this in easy language, that is like two-and –a-half iPhones”
Lucy Kirkwood's It Felt Empty tells the story of Dijana; a young woman who is trafficked to the U.K., sold to her ‘boyfriend’ Babac and becomes a sex worker. With a “head for numbers” it is not long until she will have earned enough money to leave to try and find her baby.
Clean Break (a charity that helps women who are at risk of or have been through the criminal justice system) originally staged their production in a warehouse and our promenade play hopes to recreate the effecting nature of their performance. The play is not-for-profit with all proceeds going to Clean Break.
We are seeking to sustain a dialogue about the difficult issues of sex-trafficking and deportation by our series of panel discussions which will take place after the play and by our integration of artwork from various artists into the set.
