Drunk Enough To Say I Love You? // by Caryl Churchill // 4th Week MT19
'love me love me, you have to love me, you'
'Drunk enough to say I love you?' consists of 8 scenes following a couple, Guy and Sam. Symbolic of the so-called 'special-relationship' between the UK and US, we witness the pair as their romance turns sour, toxic and abusive. Politics is sexualised: the two lovers coitally bonding over military diplomacy, regime change and rigged elections. This is a study of the powers that define our society and of our inability to prevent their violence.
This production is giving the play an exciting new staging employing live film, video design, movement and original mixes by Oxford's own Goodness DJs.
We would particularly like to stress that this play will include potentially upsetting footage, dialogue and references. Please do consider our trigger warnings below.
