WHERE IS THE PILCH?
The Pilch is just down the steps from the first courtyard in Jowett Walk, a Balliol College residential complex. There is a gate that requires a code to enter Jowett. Visit our contact page for more details.
HOW DO I GET THROUGH THE GATE?
Companies performing in the venue will be given a fob for the Salto lock at the gate; this will be attached to the keys for the studio. In show week, companies are expected to provide ticketing/FOH at the gate and to let their audience members in only when they have presented them with a valid ticket.
HOW LONG IS A SLOT?
Performances at The Michael Pilch Studio run from Wednesday to Saturday, with technical/dress rehearsals on Tuesday. Keys can be collected from Balliol Lodge at 8am on Tuesday morning and must be returned by 8am Sunday.
WHO CAN COLLECT A KEY?
Only the named key holder may collect the key and return it. A deposit of £100 must be made by check upon collection which will cover the replacement of the keys should the key holder lose them as well as any breach in the contract.
I'M A BALLIOL STUDENT, HOW DO I BOOK THE PILCH?
If you are a student at Balliol College, you can book the studio on Sundays and Mondays. Just like any room booking in college, you need to send an email to porters.booking@balliol.ox.ac.uk and fill out the relevant forms.
I WANT TO DO THE SHOW IN AN UNUSUAL LAYOUT... WHAT'S THE CAPACITY?
The beauty of the Pilch is that you can arrange the stage and seating arrangements however you like, but this does mean that the venue doesn't always seat 90 people. As a rule of thumb, 70-75 is a reasonable estimate for most layouts.
