our ethos
The Pilch Committee prides itself on welcoming fresh, innovative and exciting work, whether it be brand new writing or avant-garde reimaginings of old classics. For a flavour of what we're about, check out our WHAT'S ON page for all this term's shows and our ARCHIVE for previous shows!
our history
Founded in 1997, the Pilch owes everything to the generous endowment of the late Michael Pilch CBE (Balliol alumnus 1945) whose desire it was to spark a renaissance of Balliol drama. During his time at Balliol reading Mathematics, Mr. Pilch acted with the Balliol Players and Oxford University Dramatic Society ('OUDS'). Since its creation, the Pilch has been run by students passionate about drama in the form of the Balliol College Drama Society and Pilch Committee.
Pilch Presidents:
- Alice Lavelle (c.2018-2021)
- Oliver Khurshid (October 2021- December 2022)
- The Pilch is currently led by Charles West (January 2023 - October 2023).
