livewire productions present the homecoming by harold pinter
(15th-18th February 2017)
"If you take the glass ... I'll take you."
Often considered as Harold Pinter’s greatest play, the hazardous world of The Homecoming is a spitting hot bed of tension. After years abroad, Teddy, a philosophy professor, returns from America with his wife Ruth to his family in London. They discover a claustrophobic and ruthless home where his father Max, brothers – pimp Lenny and boxer Joey – and uncle Sam live in a state of mutual loathing and festering bitterness. Theirs is a motherless, merciless and lawless home where Ruth immediately becomes the focal point of danger and desire.
Pinter’s sinister masterpiece simmers with suspense; it rings with savage humour as Ruth collapses and challenges the binary between predator and prey, lover and mother, in a discomforting domestic battle.
